The focus of the study is work-related use of virtual worlds and campuses, immersive learning environments, and 3D business applications. The core question is, “What is the business value of using immersive technologies for work?”. The study has two components: an anonymous online survey and in-depth interviews conducted via phone or in-world.

“This study will shed new light on why organizations are deploying immersive technologies in the workplace, with particular focus on business value” says Erica Driver, principal at ThinkBalm,” We are currently in the data collection phase of the study and are eager to hear from people who used or deployed immersive technology in the workplace in 2008 or the first quarter of 2009 and have insight into the business value the technology has delivered (or not, as the case may be). If you meet these criteria and do not work in sales, marketing, product development, or customer support for a technology provider that offers immersive technology solutions, please participate in this groundbreaking research.”

The study is sponsored by AltadynForterra SystemsLinden LabProtonMediaQwaq, and Tandem Learning. ThinkBalm is an independent IT industry analysis and strategy consulting company, and it is headquartered in Rhode Island, USA.
